Students at this stage

In Years 5 and 6, students learn to balance the benefits offered by technology with a critical awareness of their own online behaviour and the online behaviour of others. They begin to explore strategies for protecting the rights of others online including asking for permission before engaging in online activities and valuing the contribution of diverse voices. Students begin to understand the range of ways that people express themselves online, that individuals can have more than one online identity and that at times that identity may be different to the identity that they have when offline.

They develop effective strategies for staying safe and making a positive contribution online and begin to extend their knowledge of behavioural and technical strategies to limit the impact on privacy and protect data, systems and themselves against compromise.

Students continue to develop skills to manage their emotions, understand physical and social changes, and examine how the nature of their relationships can change over time. They begin to explore online help-seeking information and services.
