Years 1 and 2
Typically, students at this stage develop their identities and participate more broadly in everyday life. They learn more about themselves and explore their abilities. They develop the ability see other people’s points of view which helps them to make new friends, meet new people and connect with the wider community. Their morals and values are developing. They are supported to control their own behaviour and emotions and become more confident when they interact with others. They can be sensitive to other people’s views and beliefs – especially adults. They come to understand strategies to use when they need help and are supported to develop personal and social skills such as cooperation, decision-making, problem-solving and persistence.
