Outdoor learning: Numeracy

Numeracy

Outdoor learning can give students opportunities to recognise the mathematics that exists in outdoor learning experiences; to see the importance of numeracy, select relevant numeracy knowledge and skills, and apply these skills in outdoor contexts. Students can use calculation, estimation and measurement to collect and make sense of information related to, for example, nutrition, fitness or navigation in the outdoors. They use spatial reasoning in outdoor activities and when developing concepts and strategies for individual and group recreational pursuits. Students can interpret and analyse information using statistical reasoning, identifying patterns and relationships in data to consider trends, draw conclusions, make predictions and inform outdoor behaviour and practices.
