Understand illustrations of practice

Illustrations of practice (IoPs) bring aspects of the Australian Curriculum to life. IoPs have been developed for a range of purposes. They are resources that provide contextual information and a variety of artefacts such as videos, podcasts, documentation and links to show:

  • effective implementation of the Australian Curriculum in Australian schools
  • manageability of the curriculum.

They may include:

  • differentiation of the curriculum to meet a range of student needs.
  • links to professional learning and discussion ideas that may show the iterative development of teaching, learning and assessment planning strategies using the Australian Curriculum.

STEM

ACARA’s STEM Connections project aimed at investigating a cross-disciplinary approach to the teaching of STEM disciplines. In collaboration with the Australian Association of Mathematics teachers, ACARA supported 13 schools from around the country to develop an integrated STEM project that had its basis in the real world and incorporated the Australian Curriculum learning areas of Mathematics, Science and Technologies.

Five STEM IoPs were recorded for STEM Connections in Years 9-10. As a part of the Digital Technologies in focus project, 5 new illustrations of practice for STEM Connections were recorded for F-10.
