Welcome

Barry McGaw

Building an Australian curriculum for the first time is a great opportunity for us all and we are off to very good start in the first four areas — English, mathematics, science and history. We developed a brief statement of purpose and a broad scope and sequence for each in 2008 and put them out for public discussion. We received very helpful advice, published revised versions early in 2009 and then set about developing the detailed K–10 draft curriculum which has been subject to consultation since March 2010. The draft senior secondary Australian Curriculum in English, mathematics, science and history is now available for comment.

We want our curriculum to be genuinely world class. Indeed, we aim for it to be world’s best! We have examined the curriculum in other high-performing countries to check that our aspirations are high. We now need the Australian education profession and public to review our work and to suggest how to make it better still.

This website indicates the electronic form in which we plan to publish the final versions in September 2010. It will be a digital curriculum for the 21st century digital world.

We now need your advice. When you tell us what you think of the content of the curriculum, you might also tell us what you think of the form of presentation.

Yours sincerely,
